Fix our eyes on Jesus

Pr4:25-27. “Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet, then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or the left, turn your foot away from evil.”

King Solomon was the wisest and richest man to ever live.

He also said “only pursue things in life that are not temporary.” That which won’t last, can’t offer fulfillment in life. The meaning of life comes from the creator of life. Imagine that. Selflessly, God made us to enjoy and for us to enjoy him. We are called to enjoy him for who he is and what he gives. True meaning in life is found in our absorbing God through his redemption and restoration of human life. This experience and offering, inspires living lives of character, faithfulness, and integrity. It’s the pursuit of God that gives life meaning and it’s the fulfillment from God, that gives our pleasure and joy in life.

Scripture says to “fix our eyes on Jesus.”

Look on Jesus, who is straight ahead before us. It’s the only way to remain righteous.

Ps:123-1. “To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens.”

King Solomon said in his final analysis of life, “fear God and keep his commandments.” He said, this the “whole duty of everyone.”

My observation of many Christians, is that we don’t do well “fixing our eyes on Jesus.” Doing that requires Jesus to be Lord of all of us, in our lives.

That means we look to him with spiritual eyes, to see who he really is, what he has done, and continues to do for us. We tend to use our physical eyes, and only see what we horizontally see, which is our physical world we navigate through. We must train ourselves to not trust what we see but rather, live by faith and trust who we don’t see (Jesus).Until we use our spiritual vision to see God’s glory, his greatness, and his presentness, “our eyes cannot be fixed on Jesus.” They are fixed on us, and everything around us. Christians can’t get what we need by looking straight ahead. It’s a visual that leads to more sin, brokenness, and less holiness. It takes us further away from God and our old self, before salvation, is in charge of our life.

There is no “righteous fear” of God when we are too far removed to experience God. We then lead sinful lives, thinking all is well with our soul, when it’s not. We are in spiritual withdrawal from what God gives and must have, and we seem to be content with it. Having Jesus but not living through Jesus, means we have nothing that Jesus wants to give us here. All that gives meaning, fulfillment, purpose, satisfaction and true identity, is lacking. And, we don’t realize it because we expect nothing more than what our fallen world tries to bestow on us, which has no value.

Authentic value is lasting, fully meets our inner needs, gives all that humans were made to flourish, and leads to the kingdom life to come. If it’s not eternal and Godly, it has no real value. As king Solomon said after becoming the richest man in the world, “nothing satisfies and fulfills humans, unless it comes from God” (he works internally, and what he gives is eternal).

Oh, to have the wisdom that Solomon prayed for and was given by God! Continuous flowing of the waters of sinful flesh, will not satisfy the inner needs of man. Only the living water of God, fulfills what man most needs and can flourish from.

Heb:12-2. “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
